Volunteer Opportunities

Staff Support
Want to provide direct services to our guests?  Our Centers’ staff could really use a hand assisting our many guests with daily needs.  We need mature, social service-oriented men and women to be at our Center reception desks – fielding phone calls and assisting the management staff with general operations in each center. These 3 – 4 hour shifts are scheduled weekly in all three centers.

*Men’s Center Staff Support positions are scheduled 6 am – 9 am, 10 am – 1 pm and 4 pm – 8 pm

*Women’s Center Staff Support positions are scheduled 4 pm – 8 pm

*Mother & Children’s Center staff support shifts are scheduled 6 am – 8 am and 4 pm – 8 pm.

*Crisis Specialists – We need a few brave folks to spend quality time with our most fragile guests.  These volunteers would spend time in the day room engaging with interested guests or guests recommend by our caseworkers for some quality time.  This healthy engagement could include simple conversation, playing games, or crafting with goal not being the activity itself but rather a means to an end – pulling our guests towards wellness by modeling it and relationally sharing an activity.  Ideally, this relationship could grow to support driving guests to appointments around town.  Anything we can do to help our guest connect with outside services quickly – which includes providing a ride – will help them move on to stable housing and employment.

Volunteer Drivers
We need men and women willing to drive mission vehicles to pick up donations and help with move outs.

*Food Donation Pick-ups consists of a set route of business. Shifts typically run from 8 am – noon or shorter depending on the volume of donations that day. The majority of our food donations come in the form of salvaged food from a number of local stores.

*Evening drivers take our guests to Celebrate Recovery meetings held at churches in Eugene and Springfield. These shifts typically run from 6 pm – 9pm.

Food Service
What does it take to provide over 700 meals a day?  The answer is YOU!

*Serve a Meal:  Every day we need willing hearts and helping hands to cook and serve three meals a day to our guests.  If you are looking for ongoing volunteer opportunities with direct impact, come feed the homeless at the mission!

6:45 am – 8 am: Serve Breakfast
11 am – 1 pm: Set up dining room and serve Lunch.
4:45 pm – 7 pm: Set up dining room and serve Dinner

*Food Donation Sorting: We feed our guests with almost 100% donated goods thanks to our wonderful business partners and community members. Volunteers assist in unloading Mission delivery trucks as they arrive at the Mission. The food will be taken to the pantry, warehouse, or dry goods area and organized on shelves. Shifts available seven days a week at 8 am – 11 am or 1 pm – 4 pm.

In Kind Donation Processing
We are so blessed by the volume of donated goods that come through our warehouse daily.  We need YOUR help to be good stewards of these gifts.   Roll up your sleeves and help us sort, organize and repair many of our donated items.  This could include sorting clothes, driving a fork lift, sorting scrap metal, or helping guests find items for the new home or apartment.  These warehouse shifts are scheduled Monday through Friday 8 am – 12 pm.

Want to help sort specifically for our free clothing rooms?  Grab a friend or we’ll partner you with another volunteer and you can be a part of stocking these much-used areas. Warehouse clothing sorting shifts are available 1 pm – 3 pm Monday through Friday or Saturday 9 am – 11 am.

Women’s Boutique
Would you like to run a free clothing store in our Women’s Center? Assist ladies in finding the perfect outfit?  Do you like to organize?  Then help staff our Women’s Boutique!  The boutique is open 9 am – 11 am  Monday through Saturday.  Additional sorting and donation processing shifts are scheduled 1 pm – 3 pm Monday through Friday.

We currently have a huge need for volunteers to cut hair and trim beards in the Men’s and Women’s Dayrooms.  Can you help?  Cutting hair may seem like a small thing to some, but to others, it can make the difference between landing a job and giving back someone’s dignity.  Create your own monthly or weekly shift in the mornings or evenings.

Bike Mechanic
We need persons knowledgeable in bike repair to work with Donation Processing and get donated bikes up and running for our guests.  Make your own schedule!

Construction/specialized maintenance
Because the Eugene Mission serves over 700 individuals per day, there is a lot of wear and tear on the facility. Do you have construction or handyman experience?  Why not volunteer alongside our Facilities Manager!  Most shifts are scheduled during normal business hours with the occasional Saturday.

The mission is housed on a 7.5-acre campus, and there are many “yet to be beautified” areas and opportunities for improvements as well as overall maintenance. Let us know if you are interested in beautifying an area by volunteering skills or landscaping design, materials or plants.

Blessed are those who have regard for the weak; the LORD delivers them in times of trouble.
